First off you can find me @therealbencason on Twitter! #Mc336sp20
Twitter is one of the best social media apps to keep tabs on the news. The instant nature of the platform allows you to get up to the minute updates on the latest happenings. I’m a sports junkie, so I use it to keep up with roster moves in MLB, NFL and NBA circles.
I followed:
-ESPN: I would love to work for the worldwide leader in sports sometime in the future. They are still the gold standard for sports reporting on TV and ESPN radio.
-iHeartRadio: Many DJ’s get their start at iHeart. I would like to get into sports radio so this would be a company I would love to work for. They recently laid off quite a few people and that does scare me a bit for the industry, but they still are the largest radio conglomerate.
-Fox Sports: Fox Sports is quickly making up ground on ESPN with quality sports programming and big time games on their network. Fox Sports calls 2 primetime NFL games a week, the World Series and Stanley Cup Finals.
-Fox Sports Southwest: Fox Sports Southwest is the home channel of the Texas Rangers. This is the channel that I grew up watching and dreaming of broadcasting on. They aren’t as large scale as the previous channels but I’d love to work for them!
-Fox Sports Radio: This specifically is a rising platform in sports media that I’ve been listening to more lately. I’d love to have a daily sports talk show on Fox Sports Radio or somewhere else!
-Joe Buck: Joe Buck is a broadcaster I have a love/hate relationship with. Buck has the best big game broadcast voice you will find on TV, he really brings the scale of the game to the games he calls. However, I’m not a fan of his baseball calling. He’s the most prolific sportscaster of this era and love or hate him you gotta respect his work.
-Josh Lewin: Josh Lewin was the Rangers TV broadcaster growing up that I watched. Many of his best calls are still rattling around my brain 10 years later. Lewin’s style is something I try to incorporate into my sportscasting.
-Eric Nadel: Eric Nadel is my biggest idol in sports media. He’s been the radio announcer for the Rangers since the early 80’s and already has a spot in the Sports Broadcaster Hall of Fame and Texas Rangers Hall of Fame. I actually had the chance to talk with Eric for about an hour over the summer and he gave me some of the best critique for my sportscasting style I’ve ever heard.
-Joel Klatt: Klatt is the best college football analyst around. Klatt blows me away with his concise arguments, sharp color commentary and the overall knowledge of the game.
-Pat McAfee: Pat McAfee is the future of sports media. He’s an extremely like able guy who does color commentary, his own podcast and appears on ESPN shows. His personality sets him apart from the field.
